Ryan Gyrion - Coach
Ryan Gyrion comes to Midwestern Preparatory Baseball Academy from St. Xavier University. Ryan was a member of the coaching staff for SXU in 2019 when the team won the conference championship, appeared in the opening round of the national tournament, and finished the season 34-17.
Gyrion has been a college baseball coach for 4 years, spending three years as an assistant coach for the Saint Xavier Cougars and one year as the Assistant Head Coach at Morton College. Gyrion served as the catching coach, as well as assistant hitting and defensive coach for the SXU Cougars
In his lone season with Morton College, Gyrion was the defensive coach, hitting coach, and third base coach for the Panthers. Morton College experienced the most wins since 1989 with Gyrion in his leadership role. The Panthers finished 6th in the nation in stolen bases in 2021, the highest ranking the program ever experienced.
One of the most important talents Coach Gyrion has is placing student-athletes at a higher level of play. At Morton College, Ryan helped 8 Panthers find a home at 4 year universities, including 3 at the Division 1 level. This is one of his highest priorities of Ryan’s is to advance his players to the University level.
Coach Gyrion started his coaching career as a member of the Oak Lawn High School coaching staff in 2011 where the Spartans players were developed and won a tremendous amount of games at the High School level.
Prior to becoming a coach, Gyrion played his college baseball at Pensacola State College, an NJCAA Division 1 school, before finishing his career at The Ohio State University.
After his college career, Gyrion signed a contract with the Windy City Thunderbolts, of the Frontier League. Following his tenure with Windy City, Ryan played for the Chicago Dogs, of the American Association. While with the Dogs, Gyrion played under former Boston Red Sox player and manager, Butch Hobson. Coach Gyrion ended his professional career with a .330 batting average and a 1.000 fielding percentage.
